Next, I created this model out of card. It is clear that this model is significantly better, with clean edges and hidden joinery. |
After creating these two models I began designing my dream study.
This is the rough initial sketch of my dream study. It shows the layout of the room and provided direction for my final model. |
In order to save on material waste, I designed my net for the final study on Illustrator to ensure exact measurements and optimal usage of the card I had available. This can be seen in the net of my study and the staircase below.
In order to create the skylight, I created the pattern on Illustrator. This was then printed and cut out with an Exacto knife. Using Illustrator ensured the accuracy of the final skylight.
Once these two documents were printed and then formed I was able to create the model as seen below. The model has many aesthetic features and shows the vast improvement of my model making skills.
In order to communicate the model as effectively as possible, I began experimenting with lighting to test how various lights affect the feel of a model.
This image shows one of my experiments with lighting. I tested how warm lighting creates a welcoming feel and instantly calms an individual viewing the model. |
This form of lighting was then utilised when photographing my model as seen below.
To continue experimenting with lighting I tested how a more white light would affect my model.
